Overview

Standing superbly at 6638 meters of altitude, the diamond-shaped Mount Kailash in the western Himalayas of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, joined by sacred masses since time unknown, is a host to some of the most brilliant landscapes in the world. It is said that this 30-million-year-old mountain range, which formed in the early stages of the Himalayan mountain-building process, was the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The mountain is extremely important for Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon. In this region lies the biggest freshwater lake, Mansarovar Lake, situated at an altitude of 4590 m and immensely pristine with huge spiritual relevance.

The lake spreads over an area of about 412 sq. km. and is not so far from the mighty Mount Kailash. The lake stands out as the purest water body, as pure as sapphire, which extends visitors the look into the deeper points of the lake. The route of the amazing trip starts with a beautiful bus ride from Kathmandu to the Nepal-China border at Kyirung. The Kailash Pilgrimage Trek is more than a walk to the base of any mountain; rather, it is a spiritual odyssey into gorgeous beauty and cultural, historical, and spiritual palettes variably reflecting the holy land of Tibet, scary sites, monasteries, and chortens embellished with prayer flags.

You also see other yatris doing mantra recitation, flag hoisting, and performing rituals en route. A mild fragrance of juniper incense makes a mark in the air of this area, while the chanting of monks along with the fluttering of the colored prayer flags makes the journey all the more spectacular and stunningly beautiful.

The following 14-day transformative odyssey into Tibet's mystic land is where richly textured culture merges with breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, thereby making your every step spiritually closer to divinity and your every moment blessed by the sacred aura of Mount Kailash.
